Get your team together and register onthe Geneseo Insomnia Film Fest website.  Once you’re signed on, start planning for Friday, March 27th, when SUNY Geneseo students will compete to create the best 3 minute video, within a 24 hour window.  That’s right! You’ll write, shoot, edit, and post in a single day.

All videos will be shown and awards presented on the evening of GREAT Day (April 21st). Insomniacs are encouraged to invite friends and family over the age of 18.

GIFFChoice Here’s you’re opportunity to see and share the videos that resulted from our second annual Geneseo Insomnia Film Festival.

Students had a mere 24 hours to write, shoot, edit and post a three minute video using three (or more) “elements” from a list of twenty (below). Nineteen teams registered and sixteen completed the challenge for a total of 74 Geneseo students. Some of these teams have never shot/edited video before.  The results range from fun and cute, to touching and dark.
Please enjoy them and take the time to “like” those videos you find most compelling. The team with the most “likes” by 10PM on Thursday April 11th will be our first place winner. I hope you enjoy the videos as much as we (GIFF Overlords and Participants, alike) enjoyed bringing them to you!

Here are the elements of the 2013 GIFF:
1. Two black T-shirts with “Insomniac” printed on them
2. Popcorn popping in a microwave oven
3. Point of View (POV) shot of a door being answered or slammed in one’s face
4. A request for a cup of, “Tea, Earl-grey, hot.”
5. A child’s sleeping bag/blanket
6. An extreme long shot of someone waving
7. A character proclaiming that something is “Legen…wait-for-it…DARY!”
8. The Phrase, “My Precious…” while doing a Gollum impression
9. The phrase, “I’m a leaf on the wind. Watch how I soar.”
10. A character named Miles Morales
11. A character wearing a fedora and trench coat with Hawaiian shorts
12. Someone doing the truffle-shuffle
13. Someone doing a handstand
14. A character “breaking the fourth wall” (speaking directly to the audience)
15. A tennis ball in a salad bowl
16. An empty birdcage
17. A tracking shot of a person walking down a hallway
18. A person wearing a paper party hat while, clearly, not having a good time
19. A single shot containing both the “Seuss Spruce” and the “Painted Tree”

Are you the next Spielberg?

Registration in now open for the 2013 Geneseo Insomnia Film Festival. On April 5th-6th, SUNY Geneseo students will compete to create the best 3 minute video within a 24 hour window.  All videos will be shown and awards presented during a special Geneseo Late KnighInsomniaFest2t.

This year, the film fest get’s social. 1st-3rd place winners will be determined by the masses who “Like” their favorite video on Facebook!

Register by March 27, 2013.

Geneseo Entrepreneurs: Turn Your Business Plan into $$$

BizPlanContestSUNY and SEFCU are offering over $225,000 cash and in-kind prizes in their Regional New York Business Plan Contest.

Currently enrolled graduate and undergraduate students from accredited New York colleges and universities in the Finger Lakes Region (Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates counties) are encouraged to apply.  Application deadline is March 8, 2013.

Geneseo’s Book Club will be starting its next book (Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen) on Sunday, April 8th – this is a great time to join us if we’re interested. Come to Milne 104 (downstairs) at 7pm on April 8th to learn about what we do, get a copy of our next book, and join in the experience!!

Anyone who comes to the April 8th meeting will be entered in a drawing for a $25 Amazon gift card. At the next meeting we will discuss the first section of our new book and draw the winner of the gift card.

Help Milne Win Library of the Year!

We’re collecting photos with captions explaining why you LOVE Milne Library.  Entries will be submitted for a local Library of the Year contest. Have a favorite study spot? Favorite hangout? Use the puppets in TERC? Has a librarian helped you find that perfect article? Show and tell us!

Submitting your photos is easy..

Use your own phone or camera and if you don’t have one, use one from the Library! Just check it out at the service desk.  We will post your pics and captions to our Flickr account and feed them into our News & Events gallery.

Congratulations to our 2009 PowerPoint Contest Winners

Congratulations Yolanda Gonzales and Stephanie Aquilina.

Their MS PowerPoint presentation on Building A Community Supported Market was chosen as this year’s winner of Milne Library’s 2009 Student PowerPoint Presentation Contest.

This presentation highlights their Summer 2008 WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) experience, Geneseo’s Community Supported Market, and the many reasons for foodsharing and eating locally.

Congratulations! These students will share a $50 prize.

Congratulations to our PowerPoint Contest Winners

Congratulations Dan McConvey, Dan Lilly, Dilek Canakci and Larkin Kimmerer.

Their group MS PowerPoint presentation on Chinese Peasants was chosen as this year’s winner of Milne Library’s 2008 Student PowerPoint Presentation Contest.

The group used many of the new features found in MS PowerPoint 2007 and incorporated many different graphical forms to display their information. Good use of animation and templates along with clever layouts and good image manipulation left viewers wondering what would appear next.

Congratulations! These students will share a $50 prize.
