“The study of Native American history and culture is especially pertinent to Geneseo’s history and educational curriculum, considering the legacy of the Haudenosaunee in Western New York. Given the proximity of our campus to the signing of the Big Tree Treaty (1797) and the Treaty of Canandaigua (1794) the stability and proliferation of Native American Studies is necessary. Our campus sits upon ancestral Seneca land, and through these resources and the various courses offered each semester students can begin to understand the effects of colonization upon Iroquois people.”
Virtual Art Galleries, documentaries, films and books by Native authors, and links to local museums and historic locations such as Ganondagan are all available through our Native American Studies LibGuides.
