33rd Annual NYSLAA Conference held at Milne

The 33rd Annual New York State Library Assistants’ Association (NYSLAA) Conference was held on campus June 8-10, 2011.  The 120 attendees came from all over New York State with representatives from Virginia and North Carolina.

The conference began with a walking tour of Geneseo’s Historic Downtown with stops at six locations where the host spoke and participants were served appetizers relating to the history of the particular site.  The group finished with dessert at the Big Tree Inn.

There were four sessions of eight workshops each over the course of the two-day conference.  A mix of topics were chosen to meet the needs of library assistants in all types of libraries, with many of them being presented by Milne Library Staff.

On Thursday night, conference attendees traveled to the Genesee Country Village and Museum in Mumford, NY, for a short tour and a wonderful dinner catered by the D & R Depot, LeRoy, NY.  Sky Sands, Comedian/Magician provided entertainment for the evening.

The conference wrapped up on Friday with a luncheon, Awards Ceremony and Keynote Address by Kim Weitkamp, Story Teller Extraordinaire.

Many compliments were heard from attendees, such as, delight at a new and unique group of workshops offered, an excellent assortment of choices for workshops, enjoyed the tour of Geneseo, and best conference they’d ever attended.

Conference co-chairs, Coleen Hopkins and Donna Hanna extend their thanks to everyone on campus for the warm welcome to all our NYSLAA Conference attendees and for all the support and help making this a memorable event.
